#1 Cochran will build new facility

It should be ready by spring of 2017

BUTLER TWP — #1 Cochran plans to build a new dealership facility in two years after buying Kerven Subaru.

For now, the dealership, which has been renamed #1 Cochran Subaru of Butler County, is opening in a temporary facility at 340 W. New Castle Road, less than one mile from the former Kerven showroom, according to a company news release.

That is the site of the former Mikan Volkswagen dealership that closed in March.

#1 Cochran will operate from that temporary location for about 24 months while it builds a dealership in the Butler/Cranberry Township corridor. Company officials said a final location has not been selected.

Construction is expected to begin in the spring of 2016 and finish one year later, the release said.

Nearly all of Kerven’s employees are staying on as #1 Cochran employees. About 12 employees from Kerven will join #1 Cochran.

About 30 employees will be at the temporary location. Company officials could not say how many will be at the permanent location yet.

Rob Cochran, president and CEO of #1 Cochran, said in the release, “We look forward to continuing Kerven Subaru’s tradition of outstanding customer care ...”

#1 Cochran acquired its first Subaru franchise in 2006. Since then, the Monroeville store has sold more vehicles than any retailer in the Subaru of America Eastern Sales Region. That includes 192 retailers in Pennsylvania, the southern half of New Jersey and eastern states south to Florida.

#1 Cochran also has earned the Subaru Stellar Care Award for excellence in customer service for four consecutive years.

“We are excited to have a retailer the caliber of Rob Cochran carry on the legacy built by Kerven Subaru,” said Mike Hafertepe, regional vice president, Subaru of America.
