Butler Police

12:30 p.m. Tuesday — Vehicles driven by Kylee N. Anthony, 25, of Chicora and Jesse D. Carothers, 38, of Butler collided at Jefferson and Elm streets.

11:10 a.m. Tuesday — Whitney Mae Dunlap, 25, no known address, was arrested on charges she left her sister’s two young children unattended. Police found the toddlers wandering around wearing only diapers at the Short Street Apartments.

A call from a neighbor sent officers to the apartment complex.

Police went to the apartment where the children live and found the door open and screen door unlocked. Officers yelled for anyone inside but got no response. They walked in and found Dunlap sleeping upstairs.

Dunlap, who initially gave police a bogus name, told the officers that she was the children’s aunt and that she was to care for them while her sister was at work, according to a police report. She claimed her sister did not wake her before leaving for work.

The children were turned over to the Butler County Children and Youth Services agency and later returned to their mother.

Dunlap was arraigned on two counts of child endangerment and a charge of false identification to law enforcement authorities. She was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

Monday — Police filed misdemeanor drug charges against Dustin A. Best, 18, of Eau Claire in connection with a two-vehice crash last month. Best was a passenger in a car driven by Colton E. Cumberland, 19, of Petrolia that collided with another vehicle about 5:30 p.m. March 31 on South Monroe Street.

Best told police investigating the wreck, which injured the other driver, that he and Cumberland had “shot heroin just before the accident,” according to court documents.

A search of Best’s back pack in the car turned up suspected marijuana, a marijuana pipe and three empty stamps bags of suspected heroin.

Officers spoke to Cumberland at Butler Memorial Hospital, where he was taken with injuries suffered in the crash. He admitted he had used Suboxone and smoked marijuana but denied using heroin, documents said.

Best is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Police previously charged Cumberland with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving.

8:42 p.m. Friday — Renee L. Simons, 48, of Butler was caught allegedly shoplifting several packages of candy, valued at $7.68, at Friedman’s supermarket on West Brady Street. Simons is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Butler Twp Police

Wednesday — Police charged Marc A. Blodgett, 28, and Allyshia Shaffer, 25, both of Butler, in connection with a suspected shoplifting incident April 29 at Walmart at Butler Commons. The couple is accused of removing the anti-theft “spider wrap” from a 50-inch television and trying to take it out of the store without paying for it.

Blodgett and Shaffer both were charged with retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft.

9:16 a.m. Tuesday — A vehicle driven by Mariah A. Mikula, 21, of Butler struck another vehicle on Vogel Road. Mikula was cited for careless driving. Justin A. Wagner, 39, of Butler was the other driver.

State Police, Butler

5:30 p.m. Saturday — David V. Matson Jr., 38, of Chicora was arrested after allegedly choking and hitting a 38-year-old Butler woman during a domestic dispute in the 400 block of Route 68 in Oakland Township. The suspected assault left the woman with a woman with a black eye and scratches to her neck.

Matson was arraigned on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, harassment and driving with a suspended license. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $3,00 bail following arraignment.

State Police, Clarion

Tuesday — A thief stole an Emlenton man’s hunting and outdoor equipment in woods off Ritts Station Road about six-tenths of a mile east of Route 58 in Beaver Township, Clarion County.

Stolen was an Ameristep Deerstroyer blind, Ameristep Brotherhood blind and four folding camp chairs. The theft happened between 6 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Tuesday. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 814-226-1710.

State Police, Kittanning

3:17 p.m. Sunday — A Butler couple was arrested after they allegedly teamed up to shoplift nearly $300 in merchandise at the Walmart at Hilltop Plaza in East Franklin Township. The suspects — Christopher B. Myers, 32, and Cindy Lee Anderson, 35 — tried to return the items for a store gift card.

The defendants, who both have previous shoplifting arrests, were each arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and a misdemeanor count of receiving stolen property. Myers also was cited for driving with a suspended license.

Following arraignment, Myers and Anderson were placed in Armstrong County Jail on $15,000 bail each.

5:30 a.m. Saturday — A car driven by Matthew A. Teague, 45, of Freeport struck a deer on Route 28 south about one-half mile north of exit 11 in Harmar Township, Allegheny County.

May 14 — Tara Lynn Walker, 18, of Chicora was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a 47-year-old woman at a home on Glynn Road in Sugarcreek Township. Walker was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment.

She was released on her own recognizance following arraignment.

State Police, Mercer

1:10 p.m. Wednesday — A pickup truck driven by Michael L. Patterson, 53, of Grove City and a tractor-trailer driven by Paul H. Rickert Sr., 37, of Greenville, Mercer County, collided on Route 173 at the Interstate 80 east on-ramp in Wolf Creek Township.

Patterson was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.
