Butler Police

7:49 p.m. Wednesday — Jennifer A. Haux, 21, no known address, was arrested on a pair of warrants on West Jefferson Street. She faces new charges after police subsequently found her with suspected drug contraband.

Police got a tip that Haux was headed to a convenience store on the 400 block of West Jefferson Street and officers went there to arrest her on an arrest warrant in a misdemeanor drug case filed in March and for an unrelated bench warrant.

While walking across the parking lot, she apparently saw police and ran. An officer chased her and deployed a Taser. Haux suffered minor injuries when she fell to the ground after being Tasered.

Police said a search of her purse turned up a used syringe, three empty stamp bags of suspected heroin and a metal spoon.

Haux is charged with resisting arrest and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was placed in Butler County Prison on the warrants.

Tuesday — Harry T. Deer III, 24, of Butler was charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession stemming from a weekend traffic stop where he was not even there.

An officer spotted a bag of suspected marijuana in the back seat of a sport utility vehicle that police stopped about 11:20 p.m. Saturday at Chestnut and Brady streets.

The driver told police that the contraband was not his and identified Deer as the owner, according to court documents.

The officer later contacted Deer, who acknowledged ownership of the bag of marijuana. He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana.

9:20 p.m. Sunday — Tammy L. McLaughlin, 46, of Butler was arrested for drunken driving stemming from a suspected hit-and-run accident in the area of West Cunningham and South Bluff streets.

A caller notified authorities of the crash and police a short time later found McLaughlin at her apartment in the 200 block of South Bluff Street. She smelled of alcohol and appeared to be impaired.

A breath test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.24 percent, or three times the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

McLaughlin is charged with driving under the influence and hit-and-run.

12:55 p.m. Friday — Tawny K. Matuke, 25, of Butler was caught with suspected heroin after police found her apparently high on drugs while sitting on the sidewalk on the 500 block of West Jefferson Street.

Solo shortly after midnight Saturday lost control of his car, hit an embankment, rolled over and struck a tree in front of a home on the 700 block of Mercer Road. Police said he fled the crash. An officer found him later that day.

8:30 p.m. Wednesday — Three people were hurt in a suspected drunken driving crash in northern Butler County. Among the injured was the driver, Cody Wray, 23, of Harrisville, who was trapped in his pickup truck after the wreck.

Police said Wray lost control of his pickup and hit a guardrail on Boyers Road in Marion Township. The pickup spun and rolled onto its passenger before ending up against a tree.

Marion Township volunteer firefighters had to use hydraulic tools to free Wray from the wreckage. He was taken to Grove City Medical Center with minor injuries.

A front seat passenger, Isaac Morrison, 26, of Slippery Rock, was treated at the scene for minor injuries but he refused hospital treatment. A back seat passenger, an unidentified woman, also was injured but she fled the scene before police and emergency crews got there.

Police said driving under the influence charges against Wray are pending toxicology results from a blood test.

11:39 p.m. Sunday — Joshua D. Beistel, 30, was arrested on felony assault and other charges after allegedly attacking his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at their Sutton Lane home in Clay Township.

The alleged victim, Alexandria McCabe, suffered numerous injuries in the altercation.

McCabe told police that the suspected assault happened after she and Beistel had spent the evening visiting with friends and neighbors outside their home. She eventually returned inside and went to sleep.

A short time later, she heard the defendant yelling and arguing outside. She got up and tried to calm down her boyfriend, who was intoxicated.

Beistel went into his home and grabbed a rifle. When McCabe tried to stop him from going back outside, he turned on her. He punched her in the face several times. When she fell down, he allegedly kicked her.

The woman told police that Beistel pushed her head against the wall and floor, and bit her on the back and arm.

Police said McCabe’s right eye was “completely swollen shut” and she had cuts to her face and head. They also noted that part of her blonde hair was red from blood and that she had bite marks on her body.

Additionally, a back injury suffered in the altercation left her “unable to get up on her own,” documents said.

Beistel was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $15,000 bail following arraignment.
