Mary Onufer Petronchek, 91, of Manor Township, Armstrong County, passed away Tuesday at the Lowrie Place in Butler.

Born Sept. 21, 1923, in Koppel, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rosalia Nezolyk Onufer. She was married to her husband, Michael Petronchek, for 50 years before he preceded her in death on March 11, 2005.

Mary graduated from Butler High School and attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

She worked at Armco Steel for 12 years as a supervisor of the Bond and Credit Union offices. She was in charge of selling savings bonds during World War II. She was later employed at Eljer Plumbingware as billing leader for 30 years.

She was a member of the St. Mary's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Ford City and its Ladies Guild, and organized and was the troop leader of the first Armco Girl Scout Troup 27 in 1945 in Lyndora. She served as a volunteer for Armco Grey Ladies at Deshon Hospital during World War II and volunteered for the Volunteer Income Tax Program for the IRS and AARP for 20 years.

She enjoyed helping the elderly, low-income and handicapped people with their taxes and other problems.

Mary is survived by her brother, Anthony, and his wife, Dorothy, of Butler; her sister, Olga Horvat of Oakmont, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Joseph, John, Andrew and Michael and her sisters, Kathryn Onufer and Anne Bowser.

PETRONCHEK — Friends of Mary Onufer Petronchek, who died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with a Parastas service at 7 p.m. Friday at the Mantini Funeral Home, 701 Sixth Ave., Ford City.A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. before the funeral service of Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Marks Ukrainian Church with the Rev. John Gribik officiating.Interment will take place in St. Marys Ukranian Cemetery.
