Verna Kriley

Verna M. Kriley, 90, of Freeport Road, Butler, gently passed Tuesday to our Father at the VNA Hospice in Butler.

She was the widow of Gerald “Jerry” Kriley, who preceded her on Jan. 25, 1990.

Born March 2, 1925, in Butler, she was a daughter of the late Earl W. and Margaret (Collins) Walsh. She lived on the family farm for 70 years, which became a century farm in 2008.

One cannot even begin to tell the story of someone who lived from horse-and-buggy days to modern technology.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler. She was also a lifetime member of the Butler Farm Show, along with her husband who was a founding member of the farm show and the Farm Bureau Ladies Association.

She enjoyed gardening, crafting, sewing, bird watching and especially reading. In the early years of the library in Butler, she and her sister Margaret had read every book that was available.

Surviving are her children, James E. (Pamela) Kriley and Eugene A. (Rosemary) Kriley, both of Butler, Wayne P. (Virginia) Kriley of Saxonburg, Diane M. (Archie) Harding of Boyers, Charlotte M. (C. Samuel) Williams of Parker, Loretta A. (Chris) Pflugh of Saxonburg, Laura J. Ristity of Butler and Pamela A. (Donald “James”) Fullerton of Butler; grandchildren, David (Kimberly) Kriley, Greg (Megan) Monroe, Lance Monroe, Eric (Donna) Kriley, Bradley (Tanya) Kriley, Amy (Matthew) Siegfried, Christine (Dylan) Coughenour, Kaitlin (Joshua) Claypoole, Samuel (Tammy) Williams, Michael (Dawn) Williams, Nicholas (Mary) Pflugh, Amanda (Andrew) Barnes, Daniel (Amanda) Ristity, Elizabeth Ristity and Jessica (James) Bittner; 33 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Beblo of Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her husband; her sisters, Evelyn Clark and Margaret Hammond; and her brothers, Thomas, William, Charles, Walter and Richard Walsh.

KRILEY — Friends of Verna M. Kriley, who died Tuesday, May 26, 2015, will be received at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Internment will follow at the St. Mary Cemetery in Herman.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Paul Roman Catholic Church or to the VNA Inpatient Hospice, 115 Technology Drive, Butler PA 16001.
