Firefighters aid vehicle stuck in high water in Zelie

ZELIENOPLE — Details are sketchy, but the police chief said the occupants of a vehicle were rescued from high water on Saturday evening.

Chief Jim Miller said a report he received this morning stated that the volunteer fire department responded at 6:01 p.m. to a vehicle stuck in a flooded area of West New Castle Street at the railroad tracks.

Butler County experienced a handful of downpours on Saturday afternoon and evening.

Miller said water pouring off the railroad tracks coupled with a dip in the road at the site and backed up storm drains likely resulted in the vehicle being stuck in the flooded area.

He said usually firefighters walk a vehicle’s occupants to safety, but the report did not give details on this incident.

Miller said the fire department was there for 25 minutes, which indicates that the situation was not severe.

The report did not give the names of those rescued.

Fire department personnel were not available for comment this morning.
