Memory, history and reality check: It is pretty hard for an incumbent U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania to lose by 18 percent unless you have angered and disrespected a lot of people.

Unlike some officials in Butler county, people have not forgotten the embarrassing weirdness (slept with dead baby), the extremism (anti-women’s rights), the fetishes (the whole gay obsession thing), all the alleged corruption (school vouchers thing and where he actually lived), or the unwillingness of others to work with Rick Santorum.

We need to say no very resoundingly to Santorum’s Americanized version of the Taliban and keep him as nothing more than an embarrassing mistake in the footnotes of our history.

Pennsylvania voters were justified and correct in booting him out of office by an 18 percent margin as our weirdest senator. We are supposed to learn from mistakes and not repeat them. Do not be fooled and embarrassed again.
