Dr. Amberson Bauer Jr.

Amby Bauer

Dr. Amberson “Amby” C. Bauer Jr., DMD, 72, of Butler passed away Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 23, 1942, in Pittsburgh, the son of Amberson Clark Bauer and Elizabeth (Hild) Bauer.

Amby graduated from Allegheny College with honors and went on to study at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, where he graduated in 1968 with magna cum laude honors. Following dental school, he completed his advanced graduate degree in orthodontia at Boston University.

Amby was a partner with Bauer Mascia Orthodontics and had practices in Butler, Kittanning, Leechburg, Zelienople and Cranberry Township.

Amby was a member of many local and national dental societies, including the Dental Society of Western PA. He also practiced orthodontics for a short time in Florida. For over 30 years, he was a successful and hardworking orthodontist who loved caring for people and crafting beautiful smiles. He was beloved by his patients and staff.

Outside of work, Amby's passions were his family and playing golf. He was a member of the Butler Country Club and the Oakmont Country Club, and his favorite people to play golf with were his three sons. Amby was an avid sports fan and a large supporter of the Pitt Panthers, earning himself the designation of “Golden Panther.” He was also a lifelong Steelers and Penguins fan. Sailing and horse racing were two of his other hobbies, and he was the proud owner of four race horses.

Additionally, Amby loved spending time with his family, including his adoring wife, Carolyn, his sons and all of his grandchildren. Each year he enjoyed spending his summers in Butler and his winters in Long Boat Key, Fla. Despite an over 20-year long battle with Parkinson's disease, Amby remained positive and active throughout his life. He did not ever allow the disease to slow him down and became an inspiration to many. Amby will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
