SV grad Hudanick enjoys Big 33 game

The game may have lasted just two quarters, but the experience was anything but abbreviated for Tyler Hudanick.

The recent Seneca Valley graduate started at left tackle for Pennsylvania in Saturday’s Big 33 all-star football game, played at Hersheypark Stadium.

After building a 20-3 first-half lead over Maryland, the game was called before the start of the third quarter due to heavy rain.

“It still goes down as a victory for Pennsylvania,” said Hudanick, a University of Central Florida recruit who estimates he was on the field for 25 plays, including all three of his team’s touchdowns. “The whole week was a great experience. It was cool to be on the same team with some guys who I played against in high school and I got to represent our state.”

Hudanick and the rest of Pennsylvania’s roster met briefly and got in one practice in April. The brunt of the team’s preparation came last week when the players were put through two-a-days.

“The chemistry was there from the beginning and we knew all of the pass and run schemes,” Hudanick said. “We are all advanced when it comes to football and we jelled on and off the field.”

That ability to mesh showed up in a big way as Hudanick and his teammates made the most of the shortened game, amassing 225 offensive yards.

Hudanick (6-foot-5, 300 pounds) protected quarterback Brett Brumbaugh’s blind side, helping the South Fayette product throw for 219 yards and three touchdowns.

“We had the quarterback under center a little bit,” he added. “We ran some, but we passed a lot. We wanted to show off the athletes we had.

“Overall, Maryland’s (defensive linemen) were pretty good. They were stronger in some areas than others, but I also went up against some really talented Pennsylvania players in practice.”

Hudanick missed half of his senior season with the Raiders with injuries to both knees. He is now completely healthy.

With his high school career now officially over, Hudanick is jumping right into the college atmosphere. He left for Orlando early this morning to enroll in summer classes and dive in to the Golden Knights’ conditioning program.

“The book has been closed on my high school career and it’s crazy to think about,” the native of Harmony said. “That was probably the last time my whole family will all be in one place to see me play.”
