Grove City man arrested for alleged armed robbery in Cranberry Twp.

CRANBERRY TWP — A Grove City man was arrested over the weekend after an alleged armed robbery outside an apartment complex on Dutilh Road, township police reported today.

Taquan D. Maxwell, 21, is facing felony charges of robbery, theft by unlawful taking, and receiving stolen property in addition to other charges after he allegedly used a pellet gun to rob a woman who was cleaning her car in the apartment’s parking lot Friday night.

According to a police report, Maxwell allegedly pointed the gun — later determined to be a pellet gun resembling a Walther pistol, into the woman’s ribs and demanded her money at about 8 p.m.

The woman, who police did not identify, screamed, causing Maxwell to threaten to shoot her if she did so again, police said.

The woman then gave him cash and a credit card before she was shoved inside the hatch area of the vehicle. Maxwell also stole a cell phone from inside the vehicle before fleeing, police said.

A short time later, police in Jackson Township spotted a vehicle matching the description of Maxwell’s vehicle on Interstate 79. The vehicle exited the highway and was eventually pulled over in Harmony.

The officer ordered Maxwell from his vehicle and found the black pellet gun under the driver’s seat. Police later found the victim’s cash and credit card in the vehicle, as well as clothing worn during the robbery.

He is in the county prison on $30,000 bail.
