20-year-old charged with felony assault

MIDDLESEX TWP — A 20-year-old Pittsburgh woman was arrested Thursday night on felony assault charges after she spit on two ambulance crew members at a Route 8 home, township police said.

The Quality Ambulance medics had been called to the house about 8:15 p.m. where the suspect, Rohnesha M. Burnett Johnson, had passed out from drinking too much alcohol, said township Patrolman Brian Costanzo said.

Burnett Johnson was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for treatment related to alcohol intoxication, authorities said. She was later released back to police custody.

District Judge Sue Haggerty on Friday morning arraigned her on two counts of aggravated assault, a felony, and summary charges of underage drinking and disorderly conduct.

Burnett Johnson was placed in the county prison on $25,000 bail following her arraignment.

Police suspect she and two other women had traveled to the county to visit a man who lives at the Route 8 rental home. Burnett Johnson, the tenant and at least one of the women were drinking during the get-together.

Shortly after 8 p.m., a motorist called 911 to report seeing a woman being dragged into the house.

Costanzo said he found Burnett Johnson unresponsive.

He called for an ambulance and eventually was able to awaken her.

A portable breath test showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.260 percent, documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated for motorists under state law.

She is accused of spitting on ambulance crew members Drew Maynard and Cassandra Heckert, who offered her medical care. Police said Burnett Johnson also kicked Heckert and tried to punch Maynard.

Neither medic was hurt.
