Mabel A. Lewis
Mabel A. Lewis, 92, of the Kaylor Frogtown Road, Chicora, died at 3:40 a.m. Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Rhonda K. Lewis of McKinley Avenue in Butler.
Born in Millers Eddy, Perry Township, Armstrong County, May 13, 1914, she was a daughter of Milton Perry Shakley and Pearl Christina Barger.
She had belonged to the Petrolia Presbyterian Church since 1939 after the Millers Eddy Methodist Church was destroyed in a fire.
Mrs. Lewis attended the Millers Eddy Elementary School to the eighth grade and graduated from Fairview Township Karns City High School in 1933.
Following high school, she worked for the Hunter E. Coulter law office in Butler and the Lee Drug Store and Spitzer's Restaurant, both in Petrolia. She also assisted her husband in the daily operations of the Lewis Dairy in Kaylor for years until their retirement.
She enjoyed tatting and embroidery, making velvet cushions and had made two velvet quilts with embroidery around each patch.
Her husband, Richard J. "Dick" Lewis, whom she married March 29, 1942, in Butler, died Nov. 10, 1977.
Surviving are a daughter, Rhonda Kay Lewis and her friend, Mellissa Hennon of Butler; a son and his wife, Richard J. Lewis II and Lorie of Chicora; three grandchildren, Denise Schandelmeier and her husband, Keith, of West Sunbury, Sharon Bell of Rimersburg and attorney Jason R. Lewis of Chicora; and two great-grandchildren, Angela Lynn Schandelmeier and Abbey Rae Schandelmeier, both of West Sunbury. A sister-in-law, Mrs. Martha Paraska of Cabot also survives.
<B>LEWIS </B>— Friends of Mabel A. Lewis, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the <B>Richard D. Hillis Funeral Home</B>, 102 Argyle St., Petrolia. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Richard Rowe, a retired Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Bradys Bend Cemetery.
