Rock baseball splits

Slippery Rock University’s baseball team scored three runs in the top of the first inning en route to an 11-2 thumping of Indiana (Pa.) University in the first game of a PSAC-West doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Point Stadium in Johnstown.

Rock catcher Alex Bell led SRU’s 14-hit attack with two singles, a double, three runs scored and another batted in.

Tyler Walters added a single, double, one run scored and three RBI.

Junior pitcher Jon Anderson, a Grove City High product, moved his season record to 3-1 with a complete-game victory that included four strikeouts and a pair of walks. He surrendered two earned runs on six hits.

IUP claimed the second game by a score of 17-5.

Anton Constantino shouldered the loss after allowing seven runs (four earned) on eight hits in 3.1 innings pitched.

Preston Falascino singled and doubled and scored a run for The Rock (9-8, 2-4).

SoftballThe Rock lost both ends of a doubleheader at California (Pa.) University by scores of 7-5 and 4-3.SRU (4-10, 1-3) tallied 13 hits combined in the two games, 10 of them singles. Junior designated hitter Stacey Herzog ended the day with a pair of singles, a run scored and one batted in.Carly DeRose and Marissa Harris took the losses in the circle.
