John E. Colonello

John E. Colonello, 85, of Valencia died Saturday at VNA Hospice, Butler.

He was the beloved husband for 57 years of the late Mary Joan (Broderick) Colonello; the loving father of John (Paula Jean) Colonello of Mars, Richard Colonello of Gibsonia, Thomas Colonello of Phoenix, Ariz., and William (Wendy) Colonello of Valencia; the brother of Rocco “Pete” Colonello, and the late Edward, Francis and Anthony; and the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

John worked for more than 40 years for Bell Telephone. He was president of Union Local 40 for 20 years. John had been retired for 20 years.

He was treasurer of BS Investment Club for 10 years. John was a 1948 graduate of Mars High School, where he was a drum major in the band and was a standout basketball player. In 1980, he was inducted into the Mars Sports Hall of Fame.

He loved hunting and fishing, yard work, golf, gambling and all Pittsburgh sports teams.

COLONELLO — The family of John E. Colonello, who died Saturday, Aug. 1, 2015, will welcome friends from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.Blessing services will be at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday with interment to follow at the Holy Savior Catholic Cemetery.Family suggests that donations be made to the Holy Sepulcher Church, 1304 E.
