Event raises $19.5K for heart assoc.
Mars School District elementary students raised a combined $19,553 for the American Heart Association during their Hearts for Heroes fundraiser.
Hearts for Heroes was held from February to March and included students in the primary, elementary and Centennial schools. Each group raised about $9,856, $5,494 and $4,203, respectively.
Students also participated in heart-healthy fitness activities during the fundraiser. Activities included jump rope, basketball and hockey.
Students in second through fourth grades also learned about healthy eating, proper exercise and the dangers of drugs and alcohol.
