Butler man charged with burglary

A Butler man is accused of stealing from and causing thousands of dollars in damage to an automotive service shop in Butler, according to police.

Thomas Jerry Quatro, 60, of Butler, was charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief after police said he stole more than $500 and caused $3,200 in damage at Steiner’s Automotive Service on South Chestnut Street.

Butler city police were dispatched to Steiner’s the evening of Oct. 31 for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers noticed a broken front door with shattered glass inside the building.

Business owners Jerry and Pamela Steiner were contacted and arrived at the location a short time later. Upon a search of the property, the Steiners notified the officers that about $500 was missing.

According to the police report, the footage from outside the building entrance showed a man hiding near the front door. The suspect used part of an engine to break the glass to gain entry, police said.

Footage showed the man taking cash from a box in the office, according to the affidavit.

Owner Jerry Steiner identified the man as Quatro, who had briefly worked at the shop.

No preliminary hearing date has been set.
