Timothy Fontaine, 57, of Butler, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.

He was born Nov. 3, 1967, in Butler, a son of Marilyn (Miller) Fontaine McClean and the late Frederick Fontaine. Tim spent most of his life in Virginia and moved back to Butler in January of 2025.

He was the beloved brother of Dan and the cherished son of Marilyn.

A 1986 graduate of Butler High School, Tim earned an associate degree in computer aided drafting and design from Pittsburgh Technical Institute in 1988. Throughout his career, he created design documents for naval and commercial submarines and ships, working with companies such as Newport News Shipbuilding, Gibbs & Cox, Alion Science and Herbert Engineering.

In addition to his technical work, Tim was a talented artist, showcasing and selling his paintings, drawings, and artwork in Virginia, Maryland and Washington, D.C. He also contributed to the D.C. punk rock scene, performing as the lead singer for five punk rock bands over the last 30 years.

Tim’s colorful tattoos, each telling a personal story of his life, sense of humor, and unique personality, were admired by all who saw them. He designed and conceived most of his tattoos, which used the brightest inks and were a true reflection of his vibrant spirit.

One of Tim’s favorite places to visit was Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. For 50 years, he looked forward to spending a week there each summer with his family on his mother's side, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins and their families. He enjoyed playing pinball, golf and mini golf there, but more than anything, he treasured reconnecting with his family and sharing stories and laughter, which were at the heart of every summer spent there.

Throughout his life, Tim loved all his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews and enjoyed his time with them.

Tim was also a loyal fan of Pittsburgh’s sports teams, especially the Steelers and the Penguins. He followed them faithfully throughout his life, celebrating their victories and standing by them through every season.

Tim will be remembered for his creativity, sense of humor and especially his kindness. His family and friends will deeply miss the joy he brought into their lives.

He is survived by his mother, Marilyn; his brother, Dan; his sister-in-law, Laura; his nephews, Ethan and Evan; as well as his aunts, uncles and cousins, who will carry on his memory. Tim’s passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him.

FONTAINE — Friends of Timothy Fontaine, who died Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, will be received from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler. Trisagion Prayers of Mercy for the Departed will held on Monday, March 3, beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Martin Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery, Butler.
