Joseph William Hilderbrand

Joseph William Hilderbrand, 73, of Baxter Springs, Kan., passed from this life on Wednesday at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo.

Joseph was born on June 5, 1944, in Kittanning to the union of William Henry and Eva Elizabeth Shaffer Hilderbrand.

After graduating from Butler High School, Joseph was united in marriage to Mary Lavern Redden Hilderbrand on Aug. 29, 1963, in Carson City, Nev.

Joseph was in the U.S. Navy, serving in the Vietnam War. Joseph is a member of the D.A.V. and House of Prayer Church, Riverton, Kan. He enjoyed volunteering at Overcome Addiction Through Christ at his church and Freedom From Addiction Through Christ at the Ark, Quapaw, Okla.

Joseph worked on repairing electronics and selling electronics for a living. He enjoyed playing chess and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Regina Hilderbrand; one sister, Sue Lomaster; and one brother, Anthony Thornton.

Joseph is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Hilderbrand of the home; one daughter, Tamara (Richard) Royer of Bartlesville, Okla.; two sons, William “Bill” (Dawn) Hilderbrand of Joplin, Mo., and Richard (Marisa) Hilderbrand of Galena, Kan.; 11 grandchildren, Dustin Hilderbrand, Bethany (Danny) Patterson, Kendra (Jacob) Tunnell, Kenton Hilderbrand, Kenzie Hilderbrand, Jessica Johnson, Connor Hilderbrand, Lexie (Matt) Magee, Clay Gardner, Logan (Hannah) Grant and Koren (Tyler Coe) Blunk; and seven great-grandchildren.

HILDERBRAND — Memorial services for Joseph William Hilderbrand, who died Wednesday, June 21, 2017, were at 6 p.m. Friday at the House of Prayer, Riverton, Kan., with the Rev. Pastor Audie Tash officiating.Burial of ashes will take place at a later date.Arrangements were handled by Derfelt Funeral Home.Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
