Mary Jane Bryant, 87, of Butler passed away Tuesday at her home.

She was born June 25, 1924, in Butler to the late James Howe Lyon Sr. and Celia Edna Lyon.

Mrs. Bryant was a homemaker. In her earlier years, she worked for Bell Telephone in Butler. She graduated from Butler High School in 1942.

Mrs. Bryant was a member of the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women quilters and sewing group of the Meridian and Grace Lutheran Church, the garden club, the Butler High School girls' Class of 1942 and the widows of the Summit Church. She loved music, sewing, all people, children, and her Lord.

Mrs. Bryant is survived by one son, Richard J. Bryant and his wife, Andrea, of New Castle; four daughters, Sally Jane Carrier and her husband, Fred, of Salem, Ohio, Susan A. Galbreath of Newark, Del., Patricia A. Lazare and her husband, Michael, of Boise, Idaho, and Margaret C. Gaines and her husband, Robert, of Skiatook, Okla.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James H. Lyon Jr. and his wife, Emogene, of Butler and Samuel Lyon and his wife, Shirley, of Butler; two sisters, Alene Campbell of Chicora and Patricia Burkett of Mesa, Ariz.; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bryant was preceded in death by her husband, John William Bryant, Jr., who she married on March 20, 1943, and who passed away on May 15, 1988.

<B>BRYANT</B> — Friends of Mary Jane Bryant, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2011, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler.The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Ave., Butler, with the Rev. Stephen M. Franklin officiating. Burial will take place in Rose Hill Cemetery.Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association of Western PA, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 or to the Meridian United Presbyterian Church, 4150 Highland Avenue, Butler, PA 16001.Online condolences can be given at www.thompson-miller.com.
