Virginia Southworth

Virginia A. Penrod Southworth, 78, died at 1:22 p.m. Friday at her home after an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 4, 1931, in Butler, the daughter of the late Harry E. Penrod and the late Colette Convey Penrod.

She was a certified nurse's aide and worked at the Chicora Medical Center from 1989 to 2010. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Parish, Coylesville.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Andrews and her husband, William, of Fenelton, and Carol Rettig and her husband, Larry, of Fenelton; a son, Paul F. Southworth III of Cranberry Township; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Lorraine Karenbauer of Herman; and a brother, Gary Penrod of Kansas City, Mo.

Her husband, Paul F. Southworth, who she married Oct. 15, 1949, died Dec. 20, 1988. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harry and Kenneth Penrod, and an infant brother, Donald Penrod, and a sister, Jeannine Bruno.

<B>SOUTHWORTH — </B>Friends of Virginia A. Southworth, who died Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the <B>STEIGHNER FUNERAL HOME,</B> 111 E. Slippery Rock and Main streets in Chicora. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Parish, 668 Clearfield Road, Fenelton, with the Rev. Donald Bischof, pastor, officiating.
