Glenn 'Sonny' Young

Glenn R. "Sonny" Young, 64, of 120 First Ave. in Buffalo Township died unexpectedly at 10 a.m. Thursday at his home.

Born in Natrona Heights, Dec. 29, 1940, he was the son of the late Glenn S. and Audrie Beck Young.

He was a 1959 graduate of Vandergrift High School and retired in 2000 as a truck driver at Allegheny Ludlum Steel in Brackenridge after 36 years.

Mr. Young attended the Freeport United Presbyterian Church in Freeport. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge in Freeport and the Butler and Allegheny Valley Syria Caravan. He also was a member of the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, the Freeport EMS, the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Pennsylvania Fire Police Association, the Armstrong County Fire Police Association, the Butler County Fire Police, the Armstrong County Fireman's Association and the Western Pennsylvania Fireman's Association.

He was instrumental in the creation of the Buffalo Township EMS and was a two-time winner of the Clarence "Circus" Fair Memorial Award for the EMT with the most calls with the Freeport EMS.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, photography, boating, traveling and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Julia Ann "Julie" Gernat Young; a daughter, Susan (Larry) Rock of Bridgeville; a son, Scott R. Young of Buffalo Township; and two grandchildren, Joshua and Rebecca "Becca" Rock.

YOUNG - Friends of Glenn R. "Sonny" Young, who died Thursday, July 21, 2005, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday atREDMOND FUNERAL HOME, 524 High Street, Freeport. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Freeport United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William Mumaw officiating. Burial will be private.A fireman's memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.A Masonic service will be held at 7:15 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.Memorial contributions may be made to Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, Market Street, Freeport, PA 16229; or Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Department, 563 Sarver Road, Sarver, PA 16055.
