U.S. Senate candidates Fetterman, Oz to debate

The two candidates hoping to represent Pennsylvania in the U.S. Senate for the next six years will have their first, and only, televised debate Tuesday, Oct. 25, in Harrisburg.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, a Republican, and Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, a Democrat, will participate in the debate, which is set to start at 8 p.m. and will be broadcast on WPXI.

The one-hour debate will be moderated by WPXI’s Lisa Sylvester and Dennis Owens of ABC27 in Harrisburg.

Fetterman, who is recovering from a stroke and is still experiencing auditory processing and speech issues, agreed to one debate under the condition that he is allowed to use a closed captioning system. Oz’s campaign had initially requested Fetterman participate in multiple debates.

The two men are vying to fill the seat that will be vacated by Republican Sen. Pat Toomey, who is retiring.

The candidates for Pennsylvania governor will not debate before Election Day.

The campaigns for Attorney General Josh Shapiro, a Democrat, and state Sen. Doug Mastriano, a Republican, did not agree on a format for a debate.
