City of Butler has new treasurer

Butler City Council appointed Linda Graham-Greek as the city’s interim treasurer by a 4-1 vote Thursday morning.

Graham-Greek was one of two candidates seeking the job following the departure of treasurer Aaron Bonus, who has moved out of the city.

“I’m very excited to work with the great people of the council and do something for the city of Butler,” Graham-Greek said.

Graham-Greek works at Hudson Business Services and is an adjunct professor at Butler County Community College.

Former councilman and city treasurer Jeff Smith was nominated for the position, but his appointment was not approved by council in a 3-2 vote Thursday.

Bonus had been treasurer since June 2019; he had announced his plans to resign earlier this month.

“We appreciate Aaron’s work and his commitment to city government and coming in to help us shorten the load,” Mayor Bob Dandoy said. “We wish him all the best.”

The position is up for election in 2023. Dandoy said Graham-Greek has not committed to running for a four-year term.

“In this case, we decided we wanted to go with the new blood in hope that Linda becomes really acclimated to the job, likes the job and will consider running for the term that will expire at the end of the year in 2023,” Dandoy said.
