A puppy that was found emaciated in the woods in Beaver County in early January has begun his journey back to full health as information is still being sought and the amount of a reward has been increased.

The puppy was extremely emaciated and soaked in urine when brought to the Beaver County Humane Society. The puppy, who the Humane Society named Hamlin after Pittsburgh-area native Damar Hamlin, who is recovering from a heart attack he suffered on the field during an NFL game.

Hamlin received a lifesaving blood transfusion and was monitored by the humane society’s medical team to ensure his recovery, according to a Facebook post. Hamlin is now able to walk short distances, and recovery will be a gradual process.

A report has been received that may relate to the abandonment of Hamlin, but more information is sought by the humane society. The reward offered for information has been increased to $2,000 through direct donations.

Applications to adopt Hamlin are not being accepted, and updates on his condition will be posted periodically on the Beaver County Humane Society’s website, beavercountyhumanesociety.org, and social media pages.
