Man charged with breaking into home, sleeping on couch

A Butler resident was startled to find a man he didn’t know on his couch early Wednesday, Feb. 8, morning.

That man, Kurt R. Kline, 33, of Butler, was charged with felony criminal trespass and summary public drunkenness in regard to the incident.

Police around 12:13 a.m. Wednesday responded to a report of a man breaking into a residence on Center Avenue.

Upon arrival, the resident showed police a male asleep on his couch. The man, later identified as Kline, smelled of alcohol, had glassy eyes and slurred speech, according to documents.

Kline told police he was at the Chestnut Inn and walked to the residence to go to bed.

The resident told officers he did not know Kline and that Kline did not live near the residence.

Kline’s preliminary hearing is scheduled March 20 before District Judge William Fullerton.
