Police: Woman involved in stabbing charged with drug possession

A Butler woman who police said stabbed a man in the neck in self-defense after he held her against her will inside a motel room Saturday, May 13, was charged with having drugs inside the room.

Amber R. Wallace, 42, was charged Tuesday with misdemeanors of use and possession of drug paraphernalia following the incident involving Robert L. Miller, 50, of Butler.

Miller was charged with misdemeanors simple assault, false imprisonment, terroristic threats and use and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection to incident.

Police responded to Longhorn Corral in Franklin Township at 12:49 a.m. for a domestic incident in which a male was stabbed. They found Miller bleeding from the right side of his neck, left forearm and right hand.

He was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital, and Wallace was taken by ambulance to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for injuries to her head and a hand laceration.

Police said blood was found throughout the motel room, in addition to drug paraphernalia and a folding knife covered in blood. A steak knife also was involved in the incident, according to police.

A thorough search was done around 5:15 a.m. Saturday. Police discovered a white rock of suspected crack cocaine and 45 stamp bags of suspected heroin and other paraphernalia, according to the affidavit filed with Wallace’s charges.

Wallace told police she and Miller had smoked crack cocaine prior to the alleged assault. Miller started hallucinating, police said, telling Wallace that four men were outside the room.

Police said Miller accused Wallace of cheating on her and tampering with the crack cocaine. Miller later indicated that he and Wallace purchased crack cocaine and heroin, and he believed she had switched the drugs and was poisoning him.

In an interview with police, Wallace said Miller threatened her multiple times, blocked the door to the motel room and repeatedly hit her.

Wallace grabbed a folding knife Miller had threatened her with early during the incident, police said.

Miller allegedly held a steak knife to the woman’s throat and said he would stab her on the count of three. As he counted, police said Wallace took the folding knife and stabbed him in the neck.

Miller threw her on the ground after being stabbed and punched her, police said. Wallace told officers she tried to stab him in the side to stop him and escaped into the bathroom and called 911.

Police said the woman was convinced that Miller would have killed her. Police said they believe Wallace responded with force “as a last resort to preserve her own life.”
