Margaret A. 'Oertel' Powell
Margaret A. “Oertel” Powell, 88, of Butler passed away Thursday at Butler Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1925, in Summit Township, to the late Oscar C. Oertel and Rose M. King Oertel.
Mrs. Powell was a homemaker. She was a member of the Middlesex Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and a deacon's aide.
Mrs. Powell enjoyed sewing, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Powell is survived by her two sons, Wilbert C. Powell Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Cabot and Jerry Powell and his wife, Deborah, of Butler; her two daughters, Phyllis Summerville of Butler and Karen Fowler and her husband, Jeff, of Carbon Center; her five grandchildren, Jason Summerville, Jeffrey Fowler II, Kelly Hartman, Gary Fowler, and Todd Powell; her four great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Cole, Adelynn and Ariana; her sister, Martha Allison of Prospect, and her numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert C. Powell Sr., who she married on April 25, 1946, and who passed away on July 16, 1988; her three brothers, Harold West and Oscar and Alfred Oertel, and her two sisters, Mildred DiFonso and Betty Brown.
Powell— Friends of Margaret A. “Oertel” Powell, who died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Middlesex Presbyterian Church, 116 Church Road, Butler, with the Rev. Kevin M. Bowen officiating. All attending are to meet at the church.
