Route 228 changes made to help alleviate traffic

ADAMS TWP — Officials hope minor changes made along Route 228 will help alleviate some of the congestion faced by motorists each morning and evening.

Township police Chief Bill Westerman said vehicles traveling west on Route 228 can no longer turn left onto Scharberry Lane’s eastern end.

Left turns to access Scharberry must be made at the light at Heritage Creek.

Westerman said an electronic sign has been placed on Route 228 just west of Pittsburgh Street to tell motorists of the change.

Signs prohibiting left turns also were added at the east end of Scharberry as well as Beaver Street where it intersects with Route 228.

Westerman said the township supervisors and state Department of Transportation officials devised the plan.
