Knoch grad Cotton gets major honor

ERIE — Knoch graduate Alex Cotton, a member of the Penn State Behrend men’s track and field team, has been named United East Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year.

Cotton won the shot put at the United East Outdoor Championship with a toss of 50 feet, 11 inches. Seneca Valley graduate Matthew Laslavic paced third in the javelin at 152-1 and SV graduate Aidan Domencic was sixth in the 1,500 meters at the meet.

Pettinato reaches podium at PSACs

SHIPPENSBURG — Butler graduate and Clarion University senior Autumn Pettinato reached the podium at the PSAC Championships for the first time in her career over the weekend.

Pettinato placed eighth in the javelin with a throw of 39.05 meters, the best throw of her career by nearly two full meters.

SV grad McNany helps Behrend sweep

PITTSBURGH — Seneca Valley graduate Jocelyn McNany had two hits for Penn State Behrend in the first game of a doubleheader against Carlow on Sunday, then added an RBI single in the second game.

Behrend won the contests by scores of 4-0 and 8-3. The Lions are 29-8 overall this season, 17-0 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play.

County athletes shine at PSAC meet

SHIPPENSBURG — A number of Butler County athletes fared well for Slippery Rock University during the PSAC Track and Field Championships held over the weekend at Shippensburg University.

Butler graduate Jennifer Cichra placed fifth in the 800 meters, Seneca Valley graduate Ruthie Hughes third in the 5,000 meters and seventh in the 10,000 meters, Moniteau graduate Kendall Grossman second in the pole vault, A-C Valley graduate Baylee Blauser eighth in the triple jump, Mars graduate Jacob Thompson sixth in the 200 meters, Slippery Rock graduate Josh Kingerski sixth in the javelin.

SRU placed second behind Shippensburg in the men’s and women’s meet.
