Leonard C. Silhanek Jr., 78, of Lyndora, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

Born Dec. 1, 1945, in New Castle, he was the son of the late Lee and Mary (Udovich) Silhanek of Bessemer, Pa.

He was a 1963 graduate of Mohawk High School and attended Youngstown State University, Career Academy School of Broadcasting.

Mr. Silhanek worked for Procter and Gamble, retiring in 2004, as a corporate market account manager. He, for 28 years, was also a disc jockey at WKST in New Castle and WPIC in Sharon, Pa., using the name “Len Terry.” In the late ’60s, Mr. Silhanek also spent 20 years with the Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department and was a borough councilman. He was an avid model train collector and a member of the Train Collectors Association, Lionel Railroad Club, Fort Pitt Train Club and the LCC Train Clubs. He was a member of the American Legion Post in Butler and the Croatian Club in Bessemer.

Mr. Silhanek was a member of All Saints Parish, St. Paul Roman Catholic Church in Butler.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara Silhanek; daughters, Melissa (David) McDonald of Sidney, Ohio, and Michele (Scott) Thistlewaite of New Hope, Pa.; stepson, Eric (Polly) Merkner of Wellington, Colo.; six granddaughters, Meaghan and Sophia McDonald, and Carolyn, Kathryn, Madie and Emersyn Thistlewaite; grandson, Matthew McDonald; stepgrandson, Justin Sapar; and two brothers, Randy (Joyce) Silhanek of Bessemer and Douglas (Paula) Silhanek of Mt. Jackson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two stepsons, Jason and Douglas Merkner.

SILHANEK — Friends of Leonard C. Silhanek Jr., who died Tuesday, July 23, 2024, will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at GEIBEL FUNERAL HOME, 201 E. Cunningham St., Butler.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, 128 N. McKean St., Butler. Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
