The Seneca Valley baseball team has received a first-round bye in the upcoming WPIAL Quad A playoffs.

The Raiders (17-2) will play the winner of next Friday's game between Peters Township and Latrobe at a date, time and site to be determined.

Butler (12-6) will face Franklin Regional (13-4) at 3 p.m. Friday at Herb Field in Ross Township.

SLIPPERY ROCK— Six Slippery Rock University athletic training majors have received $2,000 scholarships from the National Athletic Trainers' Association Research and Education Foundation — the most ever awarded by the association to students at one institution.The six students, all juniors — Leah Deist, Jennifer Donnelly, William Jones, Jenna Micsky, Ashley Rex and Katherine Sullivan — will receive the scholarships June 18 at the association's national conference in St. Louis, Mo.

JACKSON TWP— Seneca Valley's 2008 varsity football opener against Erie McDowell will be played Sept. 4 and aired live by the Fox Sports Network.Kickoff is 7 p.m.Raider football season tickets are on sale in the athletic office weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost is $32 and includes a parking pass.

PITTSBURGH — The fifth annual WPIALAll-Star Baseball Games will be played June 14 at Burkett Field in Robinson Township and include a few local players.Cory Mazzoni and Kyle Helisek of Seneca Valley, Tim Geibel of Butler will play in the Class AAAA game. Lee Lawver and Ryan Schroth of Mars will play in the Class AAA game.The Class AAAstars will play the Class AAAA stars at 8 p.m., following the Class A-AAgame which starts at 5 p.m.
