High school sports roundup: Moniteau girls, boys basketball teams fall in opener

Sayge Brunst (11 points) and Alyssa Thompson (10) combined for 21 points, but Moniteau’s girls basketball team began the season with a 40-35 loss at home against West Shamokin on Friday.

Emily Matz pulled down 10 rebounds for the Warriors while Brunst and Sophia Fleeger both dished out five assists.

Despite 27 points from Demetrius Crosby, Summit Academy dropped a 45-41 decision to Valley at the Leechburg Tip-Off Tournament.
