Philadelphia man held in Summit Academy assault
SUMMIT TWP — A Philadelphia man is being held on $75,000 bail in connection with an alleged assault at Summit Academy.
William Shirley, 18, a student at the school, is accused of assaulting another student earlier this month. The other student, a minor, required hospital treatment as a result of the incident.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton recently arraigned Shirley on a felony charge of aggravated assault, a misdemeanor charge of simple assault and a summary charge of harassment.
State police said two other students, both juveniles, are also suspected of participating in the April 13 attack that started as an altercation in the victim's room.
Shirley allegedly punched the victim in the face. According to charging documents, the two other suspects joined Shirley in striking the victim. One of the boys is also alleged to have kicked the victim in the left eye.
