Trust in the Lord for inner peace
The English word “peace” occurs more than 400 times in the texts of the Bible. If it were nothing else, it would be a book of peace.
It is written, “You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the LORD forever, For in YAH, the LORD, is everlasting strength.” Isaiah 26:3-4 NKJV
This was written to the people of God at a particular time, but it applies to all of His people throughout all time. We can heed its instruction and receive the promised benefit.
What in the world today causes so much anxiety? Some would say bad weather like earthquakes, tornadoes, and the seas raging with storms. Others would say poor living conditions around the world and poverty. Many would say the state of the economy.
This year has been marked by unprecedented responses to what can be called a pestilence. World leaders have called it a pandemic. Many people have been affected, and it's likely that many more will be as it runs its course. Thankfully, the number of deaths were much lower than what was projected.
The one we call Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27
He gives peace to His followers. His instruction is clear. He said be not afraid. But how? How can we be at peace during difficult times?
Maintaining peace can be hard during times of crisis; especially as everyone is scrambling to deliver the latest news in full, high definition color. But as it's written, our Creator will keep us in perfect peace, if we keep our mind focused on Him. This is simply because we trust in Him.
We are instructed to trust in Him forever, for in Him, is everlasting strength.
He provides strength to be at peace. He gives us strength to overcome all temptation to fear. He endows us with peace that passes human understanding.
It is written “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6,7
Talking with our creator is a primary way to keep our mind upon Him. Sharing our interests, our desires and our concerns is a child-like act of faith. It reveals our trust in the one who has the power to hear and respond to our prayers. Placing our trust in Him brings His peace. And isn't that what everyone needs?
Give thanks to almighty God for providing the way of peace for all who will receive it. Let's keep our minds focused on Him.
When the road of life is hard to travel, turn to the Almighty. His way can become your way. It is the way of inner peace.
