Betsy A. Thigpen

Betsy A. (Bowman) Thigpen, 80, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021.

She was the beloved wife for 43 years to the Rev. Edward Thigpen.

She was the loving mother of Leslie (Michael) Archer, Edward Thigpen II, and the late Deborah Bailey Thigpen; and the grandmother of Genevieve, Nathanael and Simon.

Betsy was a proud minister's wife, and was known for her gentle soul.

She was a passionate artist and gardener, who loved the outdoors.

In her younger years, Betsy was a synchronized swimmer at the University of Maryland.

She loved children, and before motherhood, she taught second grade.

THIGPEN — The family of Betsy A. (Bowman) Thigpen, who died Saturday, Aug. 14, 2021, will welcome friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Schellhaas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown.

An additional viewing will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith United Methodist Church, 23 E. Brown St., Lock Haven, Pa., where a service will follow at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, Attn: Leslie Dunn, MPH, ADRC Administrator, University of Pittsburgh UPMC Montefiore, Four West 200 Lothrop Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15213-2582.
