High heat, humidity could lead to early dismissal in Butler
The Butler Area School District may dismiss school two-hours early for several days this week because of forecasted high heat and humidity.
“My rationale for this is that some of our schools become hotter than the weather outside,” Superintendent Brian White said in a school district news release. “Additionally, it is not an instantaneous issue. It is the prolonged exposure to a dangerous heat index that has me concerned.”
The National Weather Service forecasts several days of temperatures reaching the 90s in Butler this week.
White said any decision to close schools two-hours early would be made by 6 p.m. the day before.
“I realize many families will need to arrange child care in the afternoon, which isn't always an easy thing to do,” White said in the news release. “I'm hoping that giving you advance notice that an early dismissal is a possibility will help.”
