Suspect now accused of stealing two cars
SUMMIT TWP — A man already jailed on charges he led troopers on a chase in a car stolen from a Butler auto repair shop this month is now accused of crashing a different car that was stolen one day earlier.
State police Wednesday filed a second criminal case against Anders M. Svenning, 27, of Palm City, Fla.
The latest charges stem from a police call about 2:45 a.m. May 11 for a one-vehicle wreck on the westbound ramp of Route 422 near Route 68 in Summit Township.
The car, a 2001 Lincoln Continental with a North Carolina license plate on it, had slammed into a concrete barrier, according to a police report.
The unknown driver, however, was gone.
Troopers checked the car's registration using the National Crime Information Center and found it was reported stolen May 10 from Wilmington, N.C.
While that investigation continued, state police in Lawrence County began a car chase about 9:40 a.m. May 11 on Route 422 in Shenango Township.
The car, a 2005 Toyota Corolla, just minutes earlier had been stolen from a Butler auto repair shop.
Butler police were still investigating the theft and issued a be-on-the-lookout advisory for the car that belonged to a customer at Joe's Auto Repair on East Jefferson Street.
The thief had walked into the shop, police suspected, managed to find the keys for the car and took the vehicle.
