In her Jan. 30 letter to the editor, Slippery Rock University psychology professor Catherine Massey, Ph.D., was right to defend the recent repeal of the military’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy that prevented homosexuals from serving openly.

Several of Massey’s points bear emphasis: Military efficacy has zero to do with sexual orientation, DADT squandered taxpayer dollars because of the processing costs incurred, and scare tactics utilizing HIV/AIDS in the 21st century are completely unfounded.

By allowing the military to recruit from the widest pool of talent, the repeal of DADT will strengthen our military.
