Privatize all of Amtrak

The plans to partially privatize the northeast corridor of the government railroad Amtrak, detailed in the Philadelphia Inquirer editorial reprinted in the Butler Eagle on June 27, is a great development that should be supported and expanded to the whole of Amtrak.

In a free nation, there is no role for the government in the railroad industry.

Under no circumstances should the government have its own company.

By forcibly crowding out private operators, the government has established a de facto monopoly.

Free enterprise — which precludes a government-owned railroad — should return to the railways.
