Privatize postal service
It is obvious from U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe’s recent statements, detailed in an MCT News Service article that appeared in the Butler Eagle, that the United States Postal Service is incapable of behaving like a normal private business.
As a related Butler Eagle editorial noted, the fact that the USPS is beholden to Congress — and not the market — for decision-making has created the crisis.
Instead of trying to incrementally change the system, it should be privatized, and the USPS’ coercive monopoly in first-class mail delivery should be abolished.
