End regulatory structure

I agree with the sentiments expressed in Audie and Sally Dunbar’s March 12 letter to the editor regarding the exclusive licenses cable companies are granted in certain municipalities.

These licenses border on coercive monopoly status.

However, the ultimate solution does not lie with municipal governments granting more licenses; it lies with dismantling the entire regulatory framework that gives municipal governments this dictatorial power.

Federal, state and local governments should have no power to decide which companies private citizens can contract with for services — unless the principles of free enterprise and individual rights are meaningless, which, unfortunately, they are to many politicians.
