Fundraiser for family hits $10,000 in week
An online fundraiser for the family of two young boys killed in a car accident Jan. 9 has raised nearly $10,000 in less than a week.
The money will go to the McCullough family of Harmony, whose two sons died when the family car crashed on an icy road.
A friend of the McCullough family spearheaded the effort by creating the fundraiser on a website called www.gofundme.com.
According to the website, there have been 305 donations in six days totaling $9,865 through today.
Shawnelle Dodds, the organizer of the site, said the initial goal was to raise $7,500 for the family.
“This money is greatly appreciated and will be put to great use, including a headstone for the boys,” Dodds wrote in a message on the website. “Thank you so much!”
The fundraiser will remain open for another week, Dodds said, because of the continued support.
Both 3-year-old Liam Bintrim and 1-year-old Declan McCullough were killed when the car driven by their mother Elisabeth, 32, hit ice and ran off Lower Harmony Road in Connoquenessing Township.
