Guns are a right
In his letter to the editor of Feb. 24 “Godzilla attacking?” Robert W. McKay said the following:
“I have guns of my own. If the government wants to register them, that is fine with me. People kill people with cars, but vehicle owners must register them.
“What is the difference?”
The difference is that owning a vehicle and driving are privileges; keeping and bearing arms is a right given by a constitutional amendment.
It’s a simple answer that, with a couple minutes of thought, McKay probably could have figured out on his own.
If Godzilla does attack, I prefer the right to shoot him, rather than just having the privilege to run him over with a car.
