TIONESTA, Forest County — A 58-year-old Butler County woman faces up to 25 years in prison stemming from the fatal shooting of her husband last fall at the couple’s camp.

Ruth Maxine Angert of Clearfield Township on Wednesday pleaded guilty to attempted aggravated assault and involuntary manslaughter in the Nov. 17 death of 68-year-old Larry Angert.

Angert shot her husband with his own .38-caliber revolver during an argument at their camp in Tionesta Township, prosecutors said.

As part of an agreement with the Forest County District Attorney, Angert entered her plea to the least severe of the homicide offenses.

Involuntary manslaughter, which is not murder, is a first-degree misdemeanor under state law.

By pleading to that charge, Angert admitted she was reckless or grossly negligent in causing her husband’s death.

The charge carries a potential jail sentence of 2 and a half to 5 years in prison.

Her other charge of attempted aggravated assault, which is a first-degree felony, carries a maximum prison term of 10 to 20 years.

Forest County Judge Gregory Hammond will sentence Angert on June 21.

Angert has remained in the Warren County Jail without bail since her arrest after she called 911 to report the shooting.

At that time, Angert worked at the Irene Stacy Community Mental Health Center’s on-site psychiatric rehabilitation program in Butler.

She told troopers that she and her husband had gotten into a heated argument shortly before 10:30 p.m. Nov. 17.

She claimed her husband, a retired laborer, attacked her moments before the shooting, according to court documents.
