Close, but no cigar

Moniteau can't hold lead in loss; Grove City, A-C Valley also fall

BROOKVILLE — It was close, but no cigar for winless Moniteau Friday night.

The Warriors held a 14-6 lead in the third quarter at Brookville before suffering a 20-14 football loss at the hands of the Raiders.

“They completed a 60-yard touchdown pass on a flea-flicker and a 2-point conversion tied it,” Moniteau coach Cecil Blauser said.

“We lost a fumble and they drove for the winning score with three minutes left.”

The loss spoiled a productive night for Cody Skiver, who threw for 113 yards and two touchdowns along with carrying the ball 14 times for 125 yards. The TD tosses were 6 yards to Austin Blauser in the first quarter and 18 yards to Stephen Hagg in the third.

Moniteau was victimized 13 times by penalties. A 56-yard touchdown toss to Dustin Geagan early in the game was wiped out by an illegal shift.

“We shut them down most of the game,” Blauser said. “They hit some big pass plays on us.”

Shonn Kline paced the Warriors with 11 tackles. Josh McBride added nine and Hagg eight.

Greenville 34, Grove City 13 — Greenville returned the opening kickoff 92 yards for a touchdown and the host Eagles (3-2) never recovered.

Foster Reznor had 20 carries for 103 yards and both Grove City touchdowns. Greenville rushed for 316 yards in the victory.
