Mars board approves new faculty hires

ADAMS TWP — New faces will greet students at some Mars School District schools this fall.

The school board last week voted to hire Katherine DeAndrea for a newly created art teacher position at the primary center.

The board also voted to recall guidance counselor Amanda Wilson, who was furloughed at the beginning of the 2013-14 school year for budgetary reasons. Wilson will work at the Centennial School.

Other new faculty hires in newly created positions include Krista Goodzinski, who will fill a newly created librarian position at the Centennial School, and Kate Reinhard, who will work as a special education teacher at the middle school.

The board also approved a handful of expenditures for upgrades in the district.

Shield Paving will pave the gravel area behind the high school as well at the gravel road between the primary center and the elementary school at a cost of $167,468.

ABC Glass and Mirror will complete window and door replacement at the middle school for almost $70,000, and Mariani and Richards will do masonry repairs at the administration office for $3,500.

Superintendent Jim Budzilek said he hopes to have all the work done before students return to school in the fall.
