Park trail not worth it
I read in the Butler Eagle recently that the Butler County commissioners are seeking a state grant to pay for the development of a trail in Alameda Park. The commissioners are submitting an application to the state Department of Community & Economic Development for $250,000. The county would be obligated to spend $50,000 to receive the grant.
If commissioner Bill McCarrier wants a trail, he should write a check out of his own checkbook and leave the taxpayers alone. Commissioner Jim Eckstein said the cost of the project was too high, even with state funding. Eckstein also said the state is in poor financial shape, so the county should keep the cost of the trail down.
I agree with Eckstein. Too few people would use this trail anyway.
