Rita K. Saska Lassinger
Rita K. Saska Lassinger, 93, of West Deer Township went home to the Lord on Wednesday.
She was born on Aug. 19, 1920, in Arnold to the late Andrew and Mary (Stopko) Saska.
Rita graduated from Arnold High in 1938. She was a dedicated member of the West Deer VFD 1 Women’s Auxiliary for more than 35 years, serving as president five times and helping organize the fundraisers that helped buy and build the present building, the company van and a firetruck. She could be seen at most every event in the kitchen cooking. She enjoyed her time at the fire hall. She was an avid reader and liked jigsaw puzzles.
Survivors include her loving children, Gloria Jean (Larry) Hockenburry of Herndon, Va., Eileen R. Simmons of Salt Lake City, Utah, Ronald (Elaine) Lassinger of Mars, Richard E. (Beth) Lassinger of Butler, David A. (Paula) Lassinger of Culmerville, and Herbert A. (Ann) Lassinger of Frazer; her 12 grandchildren; her 21 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Gertrude Dunlap of Lower Burrell, Mary Louise (Warren) Klingensmith of New Hampshire, Barbara Lee Saska of Arnold, Herbert (Dorothy) Saska of California, Thomas Saska of Lower Burrell, and Edward (Barbara) Saska of Jeannette.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry C. Lassinger; her daughter, Gail Lassinger; her granddaughter, Lori Ann Hockenburry; her stepdaughter, Sylvia A. Huber, and her sisters, Ethyl Saska and Margaret Luna.
Lassinger — The family of Rita K. Saska Lassinger, who died Wednesday, July 30, 2014, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in the SIWICKI-YANICKO FUNERAL HOME, 23 McKrell Road, Russellton, West Deer Township. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. W. James Legge officiating.
