Karen McDermott

Karen A. Pike McDermott, 66, of Freeport passed away Tuesday at Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Cabot, with her husband at her side.

Karen was born May 12, 1948, in Natrona Heights to the late Howard and Vernis M. (Mickey) Pike. She lived in Freeport all of her life.

She was a member of Freeport United Presbyterian Church and Freeport Area Historical Society. She enjoyed movies, crocheting, genealogy, crafts, painting, sketching, photography and baking.

Mrs. McDermott was the owner and operator of the former Karen’s Creations Bridal Services and worked for many years for the Freeport Police Department.

Karen is survived by her husband of 41 years, John D. McDermott, who she married July 19, 1973; her daughters, Melissa (James R.) Golembesky of Penn Township and Kelly (David J.) Hynes of Buffalo Township; her granddaughter, Danica A. Golembesky; and her sister, Darlene J. Pike of Freeport.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, William Pike, and her maternal grandparents, Mirl C. and Sarah M. (Rowley) Mickey.

McDermott— Family and friends of Karen A. Pike McDermott, who passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport.Funeral ceremonies will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark S. Davis, pastor of Slate Lick United Presbyterian Church, officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Freeport.
