Motorcyclist, 70, killed in crash

MIDDLESEX TWP — An unidentified man died Friday afternoon after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a car on Route 8, about a half-mile north of the Allegheny-Butler county line.

Middlesex police Officer Conrad Pfeifer said the 70-year-old man was traveling south on his motorcycle and collided with a northbound car driven by a woman who was turning into the BP gas station.

Butler County Coroner William Young said the motorcycle driver was taken by ambulance to UPMC Passavant Cranberry, where he was pronounced dead.

Young said the man died of trauma to his head and body.

He did not have the man’s name available Saturday morning.

Fire Chief Dave Metz said the man was not wearing a helmet.

The two southbound lanes of Route 8 were closed following the 1:50 p.m. accident.

In addition to Middlesex police, Adams Township police and firefighters from Middlesex and Richland townships also responded to the crash.

Middlesex police could not be reached for comment Saturday morning. No other information was available.
